Marc Sas is a senior international expert with over 45 years of experience in coastal, port and marine engineering. He is an experienced project manager having managed and advised numerous port and marine projects around the world related to his field of expertise. Throughout the years Marc also gained significant experience in dredging and ship navigation studies. He graduated as a civil engineer at the university of Leuven in 1979.  During his stay at the Hydraulics Laboratory of the university of Leuven he studied hydropower plants in Bolivia (reservoir sedimentation and waterhammer).
He joined IMDC in 1985 and was involved in dredging, marine and sedimentation studies for more than 35 years.  As a specialist in hydrodynamic and cohesive sediment transport modelling he conducted a number of studies for the development of the port of Antwerp.  He was in charge of numerous field measurement campaigns in Belgium and abroad to collect metocean data for dredging and marine studies. He has built up a wide experience in environmental aspects of dredging, especially turbidity around dredging activities.  He was in charge of many projects, dealing with the design of marine infrastructure : breakwaters, coastal defences, intakes, outfalls, landfalls of offshore pipelines and offshore windfarms.  
He is member of IAHS, HTG, CERF, CEDA and PIANC.  He has co-authored several PIANC guidelines and is chairman of PIANC working group 180.
He is international expert for the mitigation of sedimentation around Mont St Michel (France) and for the sedimentation issues in the reservoir of the power plant of La Rance (France).
For many years he is member of the technical paper committees of CEDA for the Dredging Days and for WODCON as well as for PIANC World Congress.
